Elective Schedule Information: Students will attend Monday-Friday and attend mandatory lectures at 7:30 AM and noon, when held at SLH. Students will spend remainder of the time in the reading room or working on an education project, Monday-Friday as directed as directed by staff radiologists. Approximately two weeks will be spent in the MSK reading room and two weeks in the body reading room. Much of the rotation will be self-directed, with the student actively working to improve their knowledge base in these radiology subspecialties, and also working on their scholarly project.
Educational Objectives: Gain additional exposure to and learn to recognize, common anatomy and pathology encountered in body (Abdominal) and MSK imaging, through various modalities. Complete a scholarly project during the rotation, which may include one or more of the following : national poster or publication submission, UMKC resident day research project, Radiology Grand Rounds lecture, improvements in radiology medical student elective. Learn how to conduct a literature search regarding a specific topic, and organize information into a cohesive and through presentation. Learn how to use PACS system and software to manipulate images to be suitable for above presentation/publication. Understand imaging protocols and ordering of appropriate studies for various MSK and abdominal indications.
